Do you need help on fixing AirPods?

I had a personal and emotional connection to the topic of our talk today. No jokes.

I’m one of those folks who has AirPods, and they lately stopped working efficiently. But, before we get to my issue, let’s have a look at some other typical issues:

Lost AirPods

These buddies are quite small and wireless, which is understandable if they get lost. Fortunately, most of the time when using Apple’s ‘Find My’ function, this is not an issue.
First, you need to launch the ‘Find My iPhone’ app on your iOS device or go to the iCloud website→ sign in with your Apple ID→ select ‘Find My iPhone’ → select your AirPods. You’ll immediately see a map of their final location before they are turned off.

If your AirPods’ symbol has a green light next to them, it implies they’re turned on, and you can play a sound to help you find them.

Pairing problem

When your AirPods simply refuse to connect to your phone/tablet/laptop. In this scenario, you’ll need to → place your AirPods back in their charging case → wait for around 10 seconds → insert them back into your ears.

If this does not work → turn Bluetooth ON and OFF on your phone/tablet/laptop→ repeat the above process.

Rarely, but you may also encounter that none of these options work → try resetting the AirPods.

One AirPod is not connected

One of our buddies will occasionally decide to take a break and play with our nerves. We do the same approach we did with the ‘Pairing Problems,’ which is to put the AirPods back in their charging case, wait about 10 seconds, and then put them back in your ears.

Is that still the case? Other options include turning on and off Bluetooth on the device, as well as resetting the AirPods.

  • Volume problems-fully charged AirPods. If your AirPods are fully charged and connected, the issue is most likely with your device→ Settings→ iOS→ make sure that all software updates have been implemented.
  • Battery life. When AirPods are removed from their charging case, they usually last for about 5 hours. However, as time goes on, they begin to deteriorate. I realize it’s a dramatic change.
Make sure Automatic Ear Detection is turned on since this puts the AirPods in a low-power mode that turns them off when you aren’t using them.

    No? Then try resetting

    Gestures not working.

  • Double-tap is not working? Oh no! Make sure to check if the feature is enabled→ Settings→ Bluetooth→ click (i) button next to the AirPods → choose the bud you want to customize. By customizing you can: turn ON Siri, play/pause the track, skip to the next track, go back to the previous, etc. Turning the gestures completely OFF is also a possibility depending on what you like and prefer, my dear friend.

Updating AirPods.

  • Before resetting your AirPods, I’d recommend checking if there’s a new update for them.
Settings→ General→ About→ AirPods→ Locate the number next to Firmware Version. If nothing happens, it is possible that your AirPods automatically upgrade to the latest version. In this case, you can either reset your AirPods or seek assistance from an Apple Store near you.

Dropped AirPods in water

When cleaning the dishes or getting a drink, AirPods are significantly more likely to fall into the water than your phone or tablet. They are readily harmed if they come into contact with fluids (sweat too). It’s common to put your phone in a bag of rice, but this won’t work with AirPods since rising dust can get stuck in them. Instead, use a soft cloth to dry your AirPod pals and leave them out in the open for several hours. AirPods are quite strong buddies, which is why they will work once they’ve dried. However, if they don’t work, you should take them to a repair store or replace them.

Sound playing from the exterior vent

THIS is what happened to me. I started thinking about replacing my AirPods which is a very unpleasant thought since they are not cheap. But I did something that you won’t believe: First, carefully clean the larger opening of AirPods with a clean toothbrush. Second, FUNNY but suck on the larger opening until you can feel that you are causing air circulation. Third, brush again AND voila, your AirPods should work now.
